    The Aller is navigable to a length of 117 km from Celle to its mouth in the Weser. Since 1918, the Aller is channeled between the Leinemündung in the Aller and Celle. As part of the allerkanalization, the construction of four barrages was required.

    By a contract in 1908, the state took over the expansion of the four barrages Oldau, Bannetze, Marklendorf and Hademstorf. while the city of Celle leased the exploitation of the water resources at the barrages Oldau and Marklendorf.
