History of the Rehhaldenhütte
Approximately 70 years ago, a small hut, built by the Kugel carpentry shop in Plüderhausen, was erected on the site of the current Rehhaldenhütte. It served as shelter for forest workers. For many years, this first Rehhaldenhütte was also used as a popular weekend home by foresters, their families, and friends. As early as 1968, the Forestry Office made the Rehhaldenhütte available to the Albverein youth group of the Plüderhausen local group. District Forester Röger and the then representative Karl Walter Ziegler initiated this.

Renovations and additions were made in 1974 and 1979. In 1976, the hut received running water from its own spring. In 1979, urgently needed toilets were installed. Despite all these construction measures, the hut remained too small for the rapidly growing local group. In 1990, under the leadership of civil engineer Viktor Hanauer, the lengthy planning for a new, larger hiking lodge began. Spatial planning and financing options proved difficult to reconcile. Demolition of the old lodge began on June 1, 1992. The new, stately timber frame was fabricated and erected by the Härer carpentry shop. The topping-out ceremony was held just five weeks after work began. Only timber native to the Schurwald forest was used to build the lodge.
