The church stands on a ledge of the Leite, a ridge next to the Werra. The mighty tower above the late Gothic choir is 20 meters high and stands out with its cornices, windows and hatches. The building has four floors with a slate-covered crown with a knob and weather vane, reaching a height of 31 meters. The roof is pyramid-shaped and also covered with slate. All in all it rises 51 meters into the air.

The nave, built in 1604, is covered with tiles. The landmark of the town and the upper Werra valley is decorated inside with floral motifs and stylized imitation stone and a painted coffered ceiling. These motifs can also be found in the gallery parapets.
