The foundations of the building, originally a moated castle, probably date back to the 12th century. In the early 18th century, it underwent significant renovations. The access to the old staircase was walled up, a new entrance was created, and an extension was built to house the current staircase. In 1739, Wilhelm Ludwig Thumb von Neuburg acquired the property, and it remains in the family's possession today.

The Unterboihingen Castle, originally a medieval water castle from the 12th century, has an idyllic castle garden, farm buildings and a beautiful, cast-iron fountain from 1833. Parts of the property can be booked for events since 2015. a. the library, formerly probably a palace chapel.
