During the renovation work at Liedberg Castle, workers discovered eight bricked-in shoes. Some kind of "defensive spell"? More than 1,500 finds have been scientifically evaluated, but the preservationists have not come across the riddle: "So far there is no source that mentions the walling in of shoes in buildings as a custom or building tradition." One thing is certain: when Liedberg was converted into a baroque palace , the shoes have also been hidden. Parts of the building dating from the 14th to the 18th century are still preserved today.
