    Zell im Wiesental was first mentioned in documents in 1275 and since 1810 has been granted city rights. The city counts today about 6 200 inhabitants. For a long time the city was known as an industrial location of the textile industry and seat of several spinning mills and weaving mills. Even today, the brand name "Irisette" is known for high quality bed and table linen. The textile / industrial past is dedicated to the lively and attractive Wiesentäler Textile Museum (wiesentaeler-textilmuseum.de). Since the 1990s, automotive suppliers and mechanical engineering as well as many small and medium-sized efficient trade and craft enterprises have dominated. An important role in the history of the city of Zell im Wiesental is played by the Weber family, whose descendants have written and influenced the history of music throughout the world. That the memory of the Weber family is so alive, the city has to thank in particular the research of her honorary citizen, who died in 1998, the well-known dialect poet and writer Gerhard Jung.
