The lock Niegripp as part of the WKM lies in the district Niegripp the city castle north of Magdeburg. It was built between 1936 and 1938 and connects the Elbe via the Niegripper connecting canal with the Elbe-Havel canal.

Until the commissioning of the Hohenwarthe double-saving lock and the canal bridge over the Elbe, the route via the Niegripp lock, the Elbe and the Rothenseer connecting canal represented the only east-west connection between the Mittelland canal and the Elbe-Havel canal.

The Niegripp lock is a sheet pile wall lock with vertical walls. The chamber walls consist of steel sheet piling, the heads of reinforced concrete. The chamber sole consists of concrete and pavement, the portals and the lifting gates are made of riveted, partly welded steel. The filling and emptying of the lock takes place via circulations in the outer and inner main, the rolling wedge contactors are opened or closed. A special feature of the lock Niegripp is that due to the fluctuating water levels of the Elbe both lift gates are doppelkehrend.
