The large palace complex appears largely to be a work of historicism. The two-story long wing comprises 23 window axes. The old palace was extended, and an extension was added to the west, capped by narrow, crenellated corner turrets. On the street side, a projecting round tower with an onion dome separates the old and new buildings. On the old building, the coat of arms of the Stein von Altenstein marks the completion of construction in 1743. The west side is adorned with an ornate gable in Renaissance style and a stone balcony on massive consoles above the main portal. On the park side, a decorative gable and a sturdy tower with a hipped roof enliven the new building. A sober functional building was added to the east several decades ago.

The interior has been largely altered by later changes of use. The approximately three-hectare park served primarily as a recreational area for the residents.

Ditterswind Castle is located in the center of the Maroldsweisach district of Ditterswind in the Haßberge district of Lower Franconia. The former aristocratic residence was rebuilt several times after the Second World War. It was owned by the Rummelsberg Diakonie (Rummelsberg Diakonie) from 1950 to 2015 and has been privately owned since 2017.

The end of the Second World War brought a brief occupation by American troops, after which the castle served as a refugee transit camp. From 1947 onward, Carl von Deuster made the premises available to the Inner Mission. In 1950, the Rummelsberg Institutions acquired the castle, which housed a children's home until the 1960s. Since 1967, the former aristocratic residence has been a home for people with mental and multiple disabilities, who were largely integrated into village life. Between 1984 and 1987, the building structure was thoroughly renovated, which characterizes the well-maintained appearance of the complex. The castle has been empty since the Rummelsberg Diakonie moved out in December 2015. It has been closed to the public since June 2017.
