    The defences at Grève de Lecq reached their peak in the early 19th century in direct response to a potential invasion by Napoleon. As a result the bay was further protected by Le Câtel Fort and Battery, Middle Battery, Valle du Fort Battery and a Round Tower. Manning these substantial defences required many troops and subsequently the construction of Grève de Lecq Barracks began in 1810. The Barracks was designed to accommodate up to 250 garrison troops stationed in the Island and it formed an integral part of the Island’s defence strategy for the north coast.       The Bay of Grève de Lecq has a pretty little harbour, a seafront promenade, cafes and hotels and, at low tide, a lovely fine sandy beach. Unfortunately, I don't know whether it's suitable for swimming or whether there are "lifeguards" on site. For swimming I would recommend Plémont Bay.

      There are parking spaces around the tower and also opposite, below the barracks. The bus stop is in the large parking lot.

        General Sir Henry Seymour Conway, non-resident Governor of Jersey between 1772 and 1775, recommended the building of this fort in response to the threat of French invasion. Conway also recommended the construction of 32 round towers to protect the Island’s coasts. By 1794 it is estimated that 22 towers had been completed, with the tower at Grève de Lecq being one of the first to be built, work commencing in September 1780.
