The four-storey Maschikuliturm was built from 1724 to 1730 by Balthasar Neumann to secure the southern flank and to a design by the Mainz court architect Johann Maximilian von Welsch from block lime from the quarry Lindelbach. It is today counted among the most important single structures of fortifications in Germany. From 1734 the covered casemate to the fortress was also built by Balthasar Neumann.

After the revocation of the fortress property fell the tower, he was restored between July 1987 and February 1990 for about 1.5 million euros. The line was held by the State Construction Office Würzburg. On March 7, 1990, he was handed over to the public.
