      Until 1945:
      By far the most important naval base on the North Sea coast was the Wilhelmshaven garrison. Numerous floating units were stationed there.       The Hohehahn naval torpedo depot presented here was built in a wooded area north of what was then Reichsstrasse 210. It was located a good 3 km west of the town of Wittmund. It was completed before the outbreak of World War II. The administrative area was built at the center of the facility. Several buildings for administration and operations were constructed here. To the north and south of this area, strips of land with storage bunkers were created, each running from west to east. Approximately 65 earth-covered bunkers were built.

        The buildings later housed disaster control departments. An office of the German Red Cross and a German Red Cross (DRK) support train were housed here.
