The Dellstedt Birkwildmoor is one of the most important raised moors in the Eider-Treene-Sorge region. The approximately 620 hectare nature reserve is made up of two parts, the Nordermoor and the Ostermoor. Due to the living conditions there (high pH value of the moor water, nutrient-poor soil and strong temperature fluctuations), only specialists can thrive and live in raised bogs. These include, among others, narrow-leaved cotton grass, bell heather and bog lily. Moor frogs and adders feel at home here. Typical bird species are snipe and the curlew. The State Office for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas of Schleswig-Holstein (LLUR) has created a special information leaflet on this subject, which is available on the Internet.
