After crossing the 335 meter long Neckar viaduct, you will reach Benningen, which is located in a bend in the Neckar. From here, the line is double-tracked (until 2010 only from Freiberg). The Backnang–Bietigheim line went into operation on December 8, 1879. The conversion made the Bietigheim station the second largest in Württemberg. The opening date of the Murrtalbahn as a whole was May 5, 1880 - this means that this new east-west axis went into operation before the completion of the Kraichgaubahn on August 7, 1880.
