The tower was built in 1913 by Professor Franz Xaver Mayer. After the Second World War, the "Iron Curtain" ran through here, separated only by a path. After changing ownership, the city of Bärnau acquired it in 2009. The tower has become a landmark and is a popular photo opportunity. The Borderland Tower offers a magnificent view of the Czech Republic, far into the Tachov area.

The Grenzlandturm is located at 793m directly on the Bavarian-Bohemian border. It was built in 1913 as a “holiday home” for the Mayer family. From the tower you have a beautiful view of the Tachauer Land, unfortunately closed. As a witness to the “Cold War”, the Grenzlandturm is a popular photo motif.
