The previous building was the small real castle. The Würzburg court architect Balthasar Neumann created the plans for the two-storey cavalier building. Anselm Franz von Ingelheim, Prince-Bishop in the Diocese of Würzburg between 1746 and 1749, began building the cavalier in 1748 in order to be able to accommodate guests and staff appropriately. The castle of the Echter family, which stood here and was surrounded by a large moat, had to be demolished for this. The coat of arms of the Echter-Pappenheim family from 1592 can still be seen on the town hall wall today. The master masons of the cavalier building were Balthasar Trechsel, Johann Zengerlein and Michael Günther. Ingelheim's successor, Karl Philipp von Greiffenclau-Vollraths (1749-1754), completed the building during his tenure.

There was space in this building for cavaliers, for court chaplain and court medicus. A secret chancellery, a knight's room and a dining room were also located here.

From 1902 to 1968 the rooms were used as dormitories, teaching rooms and classrooms by the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture. The Kavaliersbau on Erwin-Vornberger-Platz has been the town hall of the Veitshöchheim community since 1972.
