The former post office dates back to 1893. At that time it was still privately owned. The Reichspost took over it in the year 1920. On 16 April 1924, one of the first self-dialing long-distance transport facilities in Germany was put into operation here. Modernization measures in GDR times in the entrance area have taken the building much of its former beauty. The modern low-rise building behind the building is the Telecommunications Office of Telekom. It was built in the eighties.
After the reunification, the postal services were relocated to the old town and the post office as such closed forever.

The town of Nauen itself has become an attractive residential and tourist destination in Havelland due to extensive renovation of the Old Town area. The special character of the old town with its cobblestone lanes is in the contrast between the large, structurally dominant Wilhelminian style buildings on the main streets and the small-scale residential and commercial buildings in the side streets. Many of the still numerous existing half-timbered houses are under monument protection. The inner courtyards of the old town are also charming. The marketplace, a common element of old cities, is missing. Instead, there is the market street.
