    It is one of the natural treasures of the Duchy of Lauenburg: The "Hohes Elbufer" nature reserve. Between Tesperhude and Lauenburg, the western part of the transnational biosphere reserve Elbe river landscape runs along the banks of the Elbe. Wooded, steeply rising Elbe slopes with many cuts and valley valleys characterize the landscape and offer wonderful views of the great river from the beautiful hiking and cycling trails. Natural paths lead in the footsteps of the largest rodent in Europe. The beavers feel at home again on the Elbe. Their gnaw marks can be seen in many places along the banks of the Elbe. In Schnackenbek at the “Sandkrug” begins the beaver nature trail, which is signposted for around two kilometers, and you can hike and bike on the trail to Tesperhude.
