The original building dates back to the mid-13th century and was a Zvíkov-Písek workshop. Of the original structure, only parts of the masonry and an early Gothic portal from around 1240–1250 in the northern part remain. During the reconstruction in 1720–1726, the church was reoriented, the altar was moved from the east to the west side, the entire presbytery was added, and two side chapels were added. The church was given a Baroque makeover by the Krumlov master builder Franz Jakob Fortin. The last major repairs took place in 1932. It is believed that the church was fortified at the time of its construction, serving as a guard post on the trade route above the ford of the Skalice River (also Mlčava, Vlčava). Hence the preserved name "Na Hradec." The question of whether the consecration was related to the relocation of the castle administration from nearby Bozno (Nad Počáply) to Zvíkov remains unanswered, although historians and archaeologists have attempted to determine this. The first written reference dates from 1342. The first known pastor here was Father Ondřej in 1359. According to the oldest description from 1344–1350, Mirovice belonged to the Prague diocese as part of the Vicariate of Bolzano.
