The St. Marien church in Grimmen is one of the typical brick Gothic buildings. If the gate is open, it can also be viewed from the inside. The medieval wall paintings that were discovered during restoration work are particularly beautiful.

St. Mary's Church is the oldest building in Grimmen and dates back to the 13th century. The baptismal font, a Pieta and the late Gothic council and citizen pews are all that remain of the original furnishings.

St. Mary's was built in the middle to the end of the 13th century and is therefore the oldest building in the city. After the construction of the three-aisled early Gothic hall church, a tower, choir and chapels were added. The Mauritius Chapel has been the hereditary burial place of the family of Baron Albrecht von Wackenitz zu Klevenow since 1615.
