Mandjelos remained in partisan memories as one of the villages most dedicated to the People's Liberation Movement (NOP) on Fruška Gora.
According to some testimonies, almost every house in Mandjelos had a hidden shelter, and in the second half of 1942, the entire village was turned into a hospital where over 200 fighters injured during the Great Enemy Offensive were treated.
Due to its staunch support for the partisans, Mandjelos was repeatedly targeted in major punitive expeditions by the occupiers. Particularly harsh arrests, burnings, and massacres of the people of Mandjelos were carried out by the Ustasha on May 21, 1943, following the betrayal of local partisan Sava Dimović Perkan.
Mandjelos suffered again just before the final liberation of eastern Srem in November 1944, when retreating German forces burned over 50 homes. By the end of the war, 183 residents of Mandjelos had lost their lives. Additionally, over 200 fighters joined the ranks of the NOP from this village, out of which 95 perished in battle.
Among them were many prominent fighters, such as Žika Stojšić, second commander of the 1st Vojvodina Brigade. Two People's Heroes were born in Mandjelos: the legendary fighter, courier and saboteur Pinki, one of the organizers of the uprising on Fruška Gora, and Sava Sogić Kusa, the renowned machine gunner of the Fruška Gora Detachment, later commander of the 2nd Vojvodina Brigade.
In the village center, on a natural elevated plateau, a memorial park dedicated to Mandjelos and heroes Pinki and Kusa was erected in 1983. The central monument, made by the sculptor Pavle Radovanović, consists of three stone verticals of different heights and volumes but with a unified stance and position, and it features portraits in medallions of the two People's Heroes – Pinki and Kusa.
