The Konventa sēta complex is an unique historical architectural ensemble dating back to the 13th century being residence for the Livonian Brothers of the Swords, a Catholic military order established in 1202 during the Livonian crusades by Albert, the third bishop of Riga (or possibly by Theodorich von Treydend). Following their defeat in the battle of Saule in 1236, the surviving brothers merged into the Teutonic Order as an autonomous branch and became known as the Livonian Order.
After the order left, an almshouse was set up v
here in the 16th century.
Today, it is a hotel.

Originally built as a residence for the Order of the Sword Lieutenants, the area was later converted into a poorhouse and a monastery. What is particularly interesting is that the first books in Riga's city library came from this monastery after the monks left their writings behind when they were expelled. Today, the courtyard offers an oasis of calm, nestled between picturesque cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops.

As you walk through the narrow streets and under the arches here, you can still feel the breath of history, while modern amenities make the visit pleasant. The lovingly renovated buildings, such as the "House of the Grey Sisters" and the old monastery walls, in particular, give a sense of times gone by. If you are interested in the architecture and rich history of Riga, this is a place you should not miss.

The development of this area is also historically exciting, and was extensively restored during the renovation in the 1990s to preserve its original flair. This makes it a popular destination today for visitors who want to take a journey through the city's history
