The head of an eagle sits enthroned on a stone pedestal directly in front of the reception building of the old Berlin central airport. In the past, this big head also sat on a body, namely, when in the year 1940 this eagle adorned the roof of the airport - in its claws a globe with a swastika. Of course this was not so good after the transfer to the US Army and the globe became a US flag and with a little white color from the imperial eagle a bald eagle.

Later, the head was separated from the body and traveled for many years to the archive of the Military Academy West Point. Only in the 1980s did the eagle head return to Tempelhof at the request of some US soldiers stationed in Berlin.

The concrete base with the head of the bronze eagle on top stands on the edge of the sidewalk in front of the entrance and exit to the main hall of the former central airport (Tempelhof Airport), at the so-called Eagle Square.
