      The Baltic Sea has created a unique coastal landscape here on the Birk, which impresses with its variety of species and habitats. After the abandonment of intensive agricultural use and the takeover of the former land by the Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation, large-scale species and biotope protection measures are being implemented here:
      • The controlled rewetting of former Noore restores near-natural salt biotopes.
      • Targeted maintenance grazing with Koniks and robust cattle keeps the areas mostly open and ensures active structuring of the species-rich and dynamic coastal landscape.
      • Along with the creation of new bodies of water, many rare species are promoted.
