Bascule bridge on the L21 over the Leda will be rebuilt

This year, a replacement will be built for the bascule bridge on the L21 over the Leda near Potshausen (Leer district). From Tuesday, April 14, a temporary bridge will be built next to the existing bascule bridge. The old bascule bridge will then be demolished and construction of the new bridge will begin in the same place.

The existing bridge construction from 1951 has defects in both the mechanical engineering of the bascule and the foundation. Renovation would be uneconomical due to these defects.

The design of the new bridge is based on the appearance of the old bascule bridge. A construction with balance beams was therefore again chosen, but the new bascule bridge will be equipped with a 11.90 meter long bascule compared to the existing one with a length of 8.40 meters. The pillars in the river area will also be chosen as balance beams in the new construction.
