they killed themselves on the Kreuzstein. (School essay by Gertrud Klinger, 1934 / mentioned by Losch)
    3. Famine broke out during the Thirty Years' War. Two soldiers had only one loaf of bread. They went into the forest and got into a fight. The soldiers stab each other. When they were found, they were crossed. A stone cross was erected in her memory. Since then the forest has been called "Kreuzstein". Some people also say that because two paths cross in this forest, the forest is called "Kreuzstein". (School essay by Herbert Holder, 1934 / mentioned by Losch)

History: Latin cross shape, excessively broad head, asymmetrically shifted to the left; therefore the arm lengths differ. Outer arm surfaces tilted slightly towards shaft.
Large ploughshare with small shaft on both sides. On the obverse above the ploughshare in the head a cross in parallel contours. On the back under the ploughshare probably a ploughshare.
The stone cross with clear scratches, a broken shaft was repaired with a metal clip.
Field name: forest department "Am Kreuzstein", near "Hungersträßle".

Say: 1. At the cross stone not far from the Gschwender lake, one is said to have killed the other because of a piece of bread (two pounders), the perpetrator had to walk around as a ghost until he was redeemed. (Conference essay Gschwend, 1902 / mentioned by Losch)
      2. Around the year 1850 there was a famine. A man once had a loaf of bread when he met another man. He wanted half of the bread. But the first man didn't want to give it to him, and he should

        Stone Cross Frickenhofen

The stone cross in Frickenhofen was created in the shape of a Latin cross. It has a high head and minimal head and shaft flare. The cross made of sandstone is 85 cm high, 62 cm wide and 25 cm deep. Like most stone crosses, it is not dated. Based on the shape, it is believed to have been built in the 15th or 16th century.

According to legend, two men killed each other over a loaf of bread here during the Thirty Years' War. However, this reason for its origin is relatively unlikely and the stone cross is certainly older. It is very likely the oldest monument in the old community of Frickenhofen.

The stone cross on the northwestern outskirts of Frickenhofen, directly on the footpath to Hohentanne and Teufelskanzel, has since been barely noticeable to hikers since it was hidden behind trees on a small hill. Seen from the town center, it is at the very end of Schmiedstraße.

The Frickenhofen village community has made it its task to make this cross of conciliation more visible and has slightly changed the position of the cross. A stone stele with an information board was also installed.
