"Sigmund Jähn" Cosmonaut Center

Since 1964, thoughts have been learning to fly in the "Kosmo". In 2001, the city of Chemnitz transferred this facility to the FZU. "Real cosmonauts" such as Dr. Sigmund Jähn and Valery Bykovsky visited the Cosmonaut Center not only for the 40th anniversary on August 28, 2004; the guest list also includes A. Nikolayev, Anatoly Solovyov, Pavel Popovich, the entire crews of Soyuz 31, Salut 6, Soyuz 29, Hans Schlegel and Reinhold Ewald.

The Cosmonaut Center has always conveyed the fascination of space travel according to the principle of "children for children". Experiences, experiments and information on the topics of astronomy and meteorology underline the importance of the Cosmonaut Center as an experiential educational offering in Chemnitz's Küchwald, promoted by the city of Chemnitz as an integral part of the extracurricular educational and cultural landscape.
