Burgh-Haamstede is a picturesque village on the island of Schouwen-Duiveland in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Moermond Castle, with its wide driveway and beautiful moat, dates back to the 13th century.
The castle is surrounded by the Moermond Estate, a 45-hectare nature reserve.

A piece of history:
The estate was founded around 1229 by Constatijn van Zierikzee. Its most famous residents are Jan van Renesse and Witte van Haamstede.
It was destroyed and rebuilt twice by battles.

The last residents of the castle, the Vriesendorp family, lived at Moermond Castle during World War II. They ensured that the castle was rebuilt. It was only when the castle was struck by the flood disaster in 1953 that they could no longer afford to completely rebuild the estate and the castle in such a short time.

In 1955, the castle and estate were thoroughly restored and returned to their original condition.
