    The center of Europe is a point on the earth's surface that is supposed to represent the geographical center of the continent of Europe. Since there are various ways of defining the "center" of an area and the outer borders of Europe to Asia are not clearly defined, there are several places or regions that claim to represent the center of Europe. The question is less of political than of tourist importance.

    Geographers from the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy calculated the 939 meter high Tillenberg (Czech Dyleň) near the Bohemian city of Eger (Czech Cheb) in the Czech Republic as the geographical center of Europe. They documented this at the time on a copper plate that they attached to the summit. The nearby town of Bad Neualbenreuth still uses this fact today for its tourism advertising. The official Bavaria Atlas shows the center of Europe on the Bavarian side of the border in the triangle Neualbenreuth - Tillenberg - Schopf.
