The beginnings of the municipal and central drinking water supply in Stendal go back to the year 1890, when the municipal authorities of the city of Stendal commissioned the civil engineer E. Prinz with the exploration and development of the water supply in and for Stendal.

In 1898 a sufficiently productive one was started between Heeren and Stendal
Field to be developed with impeccable water.

In 1902 the construction of the southern waterworks and the installation of an elevated tank in the Bürgerpark (at the location of the later water tower) was completed.

1933/1934 the water supply capacity is increased by the construction of the water tower
further expanded.

In 1987 the water tower had to be taken out of service due to inaccessibility on military grounds. It was not until 1995 that it was able to be used again for its original function after thorough and monument-appropriate renovation.
