    Initially, the church belonged to the Jesuits. From the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century it served as a warehouse. Until the 1990s, it served as a garrison church. In 1991, John Paul II handed it over to the Przemyśl-Warsaw Archeparchy.

      The temple was built by the Jesuits in 1626–1632.
      After the dissolution of the Jesuit Order by Emperor Joseph, the church of St. Ignatius of Loyola served as a warehouse. Abandoned and decaying, it was taken over by the Roman Catholic diocese and renovated in 1904. Dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it served as a garrison church.
      Since 1991 it has served as a Greek Catholic cathedral.
      In front of the main altar, a historic iconostasis belonging to Western Ukrainian Orthodox church painting was installed, which was created in the 1680s for the monastery church in Szczepłoty near Krakowiec. After the dissolution of the monastery in 1788, he moved to the wooden church of St. Saint Nicholas in Lubaczów, then to a new brick temple in this city. From there, in 1979, it was moved to the Lubaczów Museum, and in 1993 it took its current location.
