The Franciscan Square is surrounded by two building complexes: the Monastery of the Minorites and the Monastery of the Poor Clares. The Poor Clares are the female branch of the Minorites, which is why both monasteries are in direct contact here. The Minorites came to Eger in 1247 at the latest, the Poor Clares followed a few years later. In 1464/65 both convents tightened their rules, and the Minorite monastery was taken over by the Franciscans, the stricter branch of the order. They stayed here for more than 500 years and were only finally expelled in 1950 by the communist regime of the CSSR.

Today's Franciscan monastery can be found together with the Church of the Annunciation on Franciscan Square (Františkánské náměstí). Its cloister with the preserved unique wall paintings is one of the most beautiful places in Eger.
