Bridge gone 29/3/24 & due for replacement by September 2024.
7km diversion on Glenshellish Loop signposted next to where bridge was washed away. Cowal Way closed.
The bridge is gone at the western end of this "highlight" (warning).
Track on west side of Loch Eck also blocked (29/3/24).
Worth looking at maps, Komoot, Strava & satellite views etc for an alternative diversion around Glenshellish. The higher tracks might be better going.

Please add a comment to this highlight if you find the bridge has been replaced. Thanks.

Hi - we walked the West Cowal Way from Thursday 8th Aug - 11th August 2024 and the route is still shut with the suggestion of a 6 mile diversion. However, we managed to walk forestry tracks on the west side of the Cowal Way that avoided the bridge and diversion completely. I have posted a photo on this thread - one of the suggested diversion that is signposted and one of the route we took which is coloured in lighter blue - the route is via forestry tracks that are visible on all good GPS apps and even google earth. It involves taking a left turn and almost going back on yourself some way before the bridge so that you go behind the source of the water which is Alt Robuic (again you can see this on good GPS/mapping apps - you then circle behind the top of the watercourse (with some spectacular views I might add) and continue north before zig zagging down and into the the forestry commission toilets at Glenbranter - when you zig zag down you can see that in peak wet winter there has been some damage cause by gushing water from multiple sources but everything was passable with a few skips and the odd small jump and it had been relatively dry - I can't say what this would be like after heavy rains which is why it may be that it is not recommended as the best diversion route - all in all I think this only added a mile to the overall journey - rather than 6 and takes in some really lovely scenery!
