The "New Church" was built in 1676-1683 on the remains of the foundations of the St. Bonifatius Church, which burned down in 1581, as a baroque hall building with a surrounding, three-storey gallery.
From 1703 to 1707, Johann Sebastian Bach held his first post as organist here, followed by his cousin Johann Ernst Bach until 1728.
In 1935 the "New Church" was renamed "Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Kirche" (Wikipedia).

The master organ builder Johann Friedrich Wender built an organ for the New Church in 1703, which the 18-year-old Johann Sebastian Bach approved and tested.
From 1703 to 1707 Bach was the organist here. In 1935, on the occasion of the musician's 250th birthday, it was renamed the "Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Kirche". The simple interior has two-story galleries and a wooden barrel vault. (Source: Thuringia Info)
