Main Campus (Central Area) - part of the University of Warsaw including its oldest buildings and the seat of authorities located at Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw. Nowadays, the University of Warsaw is the largest and one of the oldest universities in Poland. Since March 2018, the university has been a member of Alliance 4 EU+, which has the status of a European university in the competition announced by the European Commission. In October 2019, the University of Warsaw won the competition in the "Excellence Initiative - Research University" program organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

In 2016, the University of Warsaw took 3rd place in Southern and Eastern Europe and 96th in the world in the Nature Index Rising Stars ranking of emerging stars of science. The 2018 Shanghai field ranking included 10 disciplines conducted at the University of Warsaw. The highest places (positions between 51st and 75th in the world) were taken by mathematics and physics.
