A historic gate located at 26/28 Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, which is the main entrance to the Main Campus of the University of Warsaw. Initially, in the same place there was a gate designed by Jan Zygmunt Deybel and Joachim Daniel Jauch, which was ordered to be built by Augustus II the Strong around 1732. It was topped with a characteristic large tin globe. They captured it in their paintings, among others: Bernardo Bellotto and Zygmunt Vogel. This gate survived until June 12, 1819. In 1823, a more modest gate was built, but not on the street line but deep inside the university grounds.

The current neo-baroque gate was designed around 1900 by Stefan Szyller. It was put into use in 1911, and the street leading to the campus called "Uniwersytecka" was handed over to the university. Until 1916, the gate was topped with the crowned letter "A", which was the symbol of the university at that time, referring to the name of its founder - Tsar Alexander I. During the period of the Polish People's Republic, an eagle without a crown was placed on the gate, which was the then state emblem. Today, as in the years 1916–1944, the gate bears an eagle with a crown surrounded by five stars, which is the official emblem of the University of Warsaw.
In 1984, the gate was entered into the register of monuments as part of the University of Warsaw complex.

The Main Gate of the University of Warsaw is a neo-Baroque gate at 26/28 Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, the main entrance to the Main Campus of the University of Warsaw. The first gate in this place, built around 1732 on the orders of August II the Strong, was demolished in 1819. The current gate was designed by Stefan Szyller around 1900 and completed in 1911.

The gate has been modified several times – originally it was decorated with the letter "A" in honor of Tsar Alexander I, later an eagle without a crown, and currently the emblem of the University with an eagle in a crown and five stars. In the niches there are figures of Urania and Athena, which were recreated in 1982 after being destroyed in the Warsaw Uprising. The gate was entered into the register of historical monuments in 1984.
