    The Catholic parish church of the Assumption of Mary and St. Nicholas (kościół parafialny pw. Wniebowzięcia NMP i św. Mikołaja,) was mentioned as early as the 13th century. It is the oldest stone-built church in Bunzlau's old town. It was destroyed in the Hussite Wars in 1429 and subsequently rebuilt between 1482 and 1493. The result is a three-aisled Gothic building that extends over four bays. In 1524 the people of Bunzlau converted to Protestant doctrine. The first preacher was called Jacob Süssenbach.[18] The church became Protestant and remained so until 1629 and again from 1632 to 1637. During the Thirty Years' War in 1642, like the entire city, it suffered destruction when it was set on fire by the Swedes. The new reconstruction took place from 1655 to 1692, in the last few years it was rebuilt in the Baroque style with the participation of Giulio Simonetti, although the late Gothic appearance was retained. In 1928 the church was given its characteristic neo-Gothic spire. Worth seeing are the Gothic main portal and the entrance stairs, on the parapet of which there are four baroque figures of saints by Georg Leonhard Weber, which were previously placed on the Niedertor Bridge. From 1938 until his death in prison in 1946, Paul Sauer was the city priest and dean at St. Mary's Assumption. On October 7, 2012, the parish church in Bunzlau was elevated to a minor basilica.
