"Birgit Feil's protagonists seem to us to be old acquaintances from our neighborhood or from chance encounters. The impression is reinforced by the fact that her characters all have names, usually first names - in the case of the man sitting comfortably in the armchair, however, it is the friendly, distant form of the surname: "Mr. Zimmer." The situation therefore has its own comical aspect, because the telling title suggests a home that is contradicted by the wide meadow - without any walls. Nomen non est omen.

Unmistakable in their design and presence, but quite interchangeable in terms of character, Feil's people all have something of doppelgangers about them, who are familiar from everyday life, but who also lead their own lives that remain alien to us. Although we are not surprised by their appearance - even if it is on a meadow where the aforementioned Mr. Zimmer has now sat for a while - we perceive their existence with irritation, as if in déjà vu. We can only guess at the meaning of their being here. (As luck would have it, "Mr. Zimmer" was washed away a few hundred meters from his assigned spot in a storm...) Are there real role models behind it? Birgit Feil says she does have an idea, but in the end they are art products"
