Cycling along the cobblestones of Bruges is a unique experience that takes you through the charming streets and along the historic waterways of this beautiful city. As you ride over the cobblestones, you can feel the history beneath your wheels and enjoy the tranquil beauty of the surroundings.

This segment, the Potterierei, runs from the Kruisvest and the Dampoort to the Sint-Annarei at the intersection with the Carmersstraat.

The street takes its name from the Potteriehospitaal, which is located along it. The hospital of Onze-Lieve-Vrouw ter Potterie was founded at the latest in 1269, the year in which the first guardian's name was recorded, that of Jan van Scheepsdale. The official foundation deed dates from 1276. .... It was necessary to have a distinctive name, because there were quite a few 'hospices' or hospitals in the city. The Potterie was chosen because there were several potters active along that canal and perhaps there had also been at the location where the hospital was built.
