    The St. Anna Chapel

A few minutes west of the Flörsheimer Warte, cyclists and walkers meet the St. Anna Chapel above the Wiesenmühle. The simple, 3 by 3 meter building in the middle of Flörsheim Switzerland dates from 1715. A small pilgrimage takes place once a year to the church, which was built as the Wiesenmühle's house chapel.

Once a year, as the local press describes it, people with large orange banners make a pilgrimage on the regional park path between Flörsheim and Hochheim. The members of the Kolping families from Hochheim, Flörsheim and the west of Frankfurt revived an old custom in 2001: Every year a district pilgrimage leads to an exposed sacred building. You have to look for a long time in the region before you find a prettier place of pilgrimage than the St. Anna Chapel.

A small grove of medlar trees frames the building, with seating inviting you to enjoy the view. A staircase leads in gentle waves down the slope to the Wiesenmühle, flanked by a row of medlar trees. The Wiesenmühle was built in 1699 and has been repeatedly redesigned since then. For a long time it was also called Bischofsmühle, named after a former owner: the Mainz auxiliary bishop Johann Edmund zu Jungsfeld had acquired the mill and chapel in 1724 for around 5,000 guilders. Its use as a mill only ended after the First World War. Today the ensemble, gracefully situated in the valley, is a popular tourist restaurant. The small chapel at the top of the high plateau was the mill's house chapel.

The new, lively tradition of the pilgrimage goes back to a vow made by Pastor Christian Preis from Hochheim. On his deathbed, he had promised the senior manager of the Wiesenmühle, Erna Schneider, who took over the business with her husband Georg in 1949, a service at the chapel.

Above the Wiesenmühle you will find the St. Anna Chapel, which dates back to 1715. As a house chapel, it is part of the Wiesenmühle, which was built in 1699. Immediately at the foot of the St. Anna Chapel you can see the vineyard of the same name, which was one of the possessions of the Mainz Auxiliary Bishop Johann Edmund Gedult von Jugenfeld, the owner of the Wiesenmühle.

At 0.5 hectares, the St. Anna Chapel is the smallest classified individual location in the Rheingau and is located in the middle of the Flörsheimer Schweiz nature reserve, surrounded by the Wickerbach. The unique floodplain area is home to numerous animal and plant species.

This small chapel, built in 1715, is part of the house chapel of the meadow mill built in 1699, which is located below the small building. Through a latticed pane of glass you have a view of the approximately 3x3m building and the exhibited sculpture of Anna herself.
