      Monteverdi Marittimo is located on a hill, in the center of the Alta Valle di Cornia, on the southern slope of the Colline Metallifere.       The history of Monteverdi Marittimo is closely linked to that of the Benedictine abbey of San Pietro a Palazzuolo, founded in 754 by Benedictine monks led by the Lombard San Walfredo, founder of the Counts of Gherardesca and patron saint of the town.
