The Pfeilburg is the only remaining part of the medieval ring wall of Fürstenfeld. It was built in the 13th century to provide additional security for the city. Towers served as reinforcement for this wall, and in the course of time they were occasionally expanded into residences. The Gothic central tower was probably a burned-out ruin as early as 1480, when the Hungarian troops occupied Fürstenfeld for 10 years. The tower was rebuilt at the beginning of the 16th century and is now known as the "Black Tower" - either because it was burned out or because powder was stored in it.
