    Karlstein Castle Park

    In the middle of the 19th century, August Graf von Drechsel and his wife Maximiliane Theodora commissioned the park design. The art gardener Ferdinand Junghänel drew up the plans for the “High Count von Drechsel's beautification facilities in Carlstein” dated winter 1845/46. The plans covered the entire village and supplemented the “Walks around Karlstein” that had already been laid out around 1828.
    In the style of an English landscape park, the northern part is divided into a park-like area around the Hirschengraben, which is lined with forests and traversed by curved paths. Square-like expansions and dominant individual trees, smaller park architecture and bridges can be seen.
    The southern part of the garden near the castle is characterized by the salon with a greenhouse and various roses and flower areas. From the stone pulpit you could enjoy the view of the Hirschengraben.
    Since the 1960s, the district road has separated the originally 7 hectare park into a southern part and a northern part that is open to the public.
    From 1972 to the present, this part has served as a nature trail. The OGV-Karlstein-Kirchberg carries out annual maintenance measures here.
    Even today, the castle park is still owned by the Counts of Drechsel.
