In 2005, we restored the Batavia warehouse on the Veerdijk in Wormer on behalf of the current owner. This building was designed in 1894 by the Amsterdam architects Van Rossum and Vuijk, commissioned by the Bloemendaal en Laan firm. They also designed the Saigon and Bassein warehouses on the same Veerdijk (also the Carré theater).
Due to its position along the Zaanbrug, in full view, the national monument Batavia is an important building at this entrance to the municipality of Wormerland. The restoration has therefore made an important contribution to the image quality at this location.

The brick-built warehouse, a highlight in Dutch industrial brick architecture, is constructed as a prefabricated cast-iron skeleton. The round cast iron columns with cast braces determine the interior of the building.

In anticipation of the upcoming change of function, the shell was completely restored in 2005 with a view to preserving the building. The characteristic facade risalites and the various original dormer windows have been restored.

With the realization of the new destination, for which a permit procedure was initiated in 2006, the Batavia warehouse will continue to play an important role in the appearance of this monumental piece of Veerdijk in Wormer for many years to come.
