    Next to the Town Hall, a small park houses the remains of the oldest Vaprio. The archaeological excavations that took place in 1985 revealed finds from three different eras: the foundations of a large wall from the Roman or late ancient period, part of the base of the apse of what was the church dedicated to St. Paul between the 12th and 15th centuries and the remains of the perimeter walls of the church of S. Bernardino, built at the end of the 15th century and demolished in 1790.

      In the heart of the historic center of Vaprio, a fenced garden between Piazza Cavour and the church of Sant'Antonio hosts one of the oldest places in Vaprio: the remains of the church of San Bernardino.
      What is now visible came to light in 1985 thanks to a chance discovery on site and the passion of the East Milanese Archaeological Group GAEM and the Archaeological Superintendency of Milan in studying what emerged. Archaeologists hypothesize that the remains found are from three different periods, clearly highlighted on the signs installed at the site.
      In it, the still visible foundations of a massive wall perfectly oriented N/S along the current Via Sant'Antonio are highlighted, at the base of which there is a row of pebbles from the Roman or late ancient period.

        On the basis of this first building, a small oratory dedicated to Saint Paul was built between the 9th and 11th centuries, the circular apse of which can still be admired. This building was then demolished in the second half of the 1400s at the behest of Giovanni Melzi and rebuilt in the "reverse" direction of the previous one and named after San Bernardino. This was visited in 1566 by St. Charles Borromeo during his pastoral visit. The church was then abandoned and deconsecrated in 1763, effectively demolished in 1790 and forgotten until the discovery of the ruins in 1985. The apse is still preserved under the current pavement of Piazza Cavour.
