    The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Vilar is a sanctuary in the municipality of Blanes (Selva) located in the Serra de Marina, which acts as an important center of attraction for the entire region. The homonymous joys are a song in honor of the Virgin that dates back to the 17th century. The building is a work included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.

    The sanctuary is a monumental complex made up of the hermitage, the terraced farmhouse and the outdoor courtyards. The hermitage is a gabled nave on a barrel vault, with a side chapel, apse, a large presbytery with a two-story head and a bell tower at the foot of the nave. At the entrance there is a wide access porch. The apse is trapezoidal and covered with a ridge vault and six ribs. The first floor of the head is formed by the octagonal enclosure of the sacristy and the second by the chamber where the image of the Virgin rests sporadically during the indicated dates.

        In 1912, an event commemorating the ninth centenary of the legend of the meeting of the Virgin was held there. During the revolutionary events of 1936-39, the hermitage was set on fire and the baroque altar, votive offerings and other furniture disappeared, although the image was preserved with great effort, hidden in the forest. This image, about 50 centimeters long and made of polychrome wood with the Virgin and her child on her lap, dates from the second half of the 13th century. Like the sanctuary, the image was restored in the 1940s. Between 1940-50, the restoration of the temple was carried out by the architect Isidre Puig i Boada and the sculptors and ceramists Josep Roig, Antoni Cumella and Jaume Busquets. In 1955, the canonical and Roman coronation of the image of the Virgin was celebrated there, in charge of the Archbishop of Tarragona and the Bishop of Girona. This was such an important event that the 25th (1980) and 50th (2005) years have been commemorated.
