After the floodplain has flowed through the Zwischenahner Meer, it forms one of two outflows of the Zwischenahner Meer in the south of the sea near Eyhausen, alongside the Speckener Bäke. From Eyhausen it flows west past the health resort of Bad Zwischenahn in a southwesterly direction and joins the Speckener Bäke at Ekern. In the south of Edewecht, the river makes a large bend, picks up the Vehne there and then flows in a northwesterly direction to Godensholt. From the Osterscheps farming community onwards, the water level in the floodplain fluctuates increasingly due to the tidal range of the Ems.
Since south of Edewecht the water masses of the floodplain almost doubled due to the inflow of the Vehne and the outflow was delayed by numerous meanders, the floodplain area here was often flooded extensively during floods. To avoid this, the course of the river in the Süddorf / Osterscheps area was rerouted and straightened in 1957/1958.
From Godensholt the floodplain becomes the Godensholter Tief. It continues to flow in a westerly direction, where it becomes the Nordloher Tief near Nordloh. In the northwest of Barßel it joins with the Soeste to form the Barßeler Tief. These two are upper sections of the Jümme.
