This '56 Museum is Hungary's first and so far only 1956 revolution and freedom fighter museum. It was founded in Kiskunmajsa by Gergely Pongrátz, former commander-in-chief of Corvin Avenue. After returning from forced exile after the change of regime in 1990, one of his most important goals was to create an exhibition of documents, artifacts, and photographs related to the 56th Revolution and the War of Independence.
The museum building was built as a farmhouse between two world wars under Klebelsberg Kuno's ministry. The museum opened in 1999 and features a Russian T-55 tank in its yard. It has two exhibition halls.
