During construction work on the road from Neuerkirch to Kastellaun through the Külzbach valley, the foundations of a Roman building were uncovered in 1873. The proper excavation of the Roman villa took place under the then pastor Bartels. The 24x25 m building was cut through by the road construction, in the south-west there were still 4 rooms, some with screed floors. One of the rooms has a semicircular extension, the salvaged brick slabs and columns belonged to underfloor heating. The heating system was located on the southwest side of the building. The 5.5x5.5 m room to the east still showed the remains of a bathing pool.
