Dingelstädt station was officially opened on May 15, 1880. At that time it was equipped with five tracks and was part of the Leinefelde–Treysa railway. In the 1920s, the tracks were reduced due to non-military use and the line was downgraded to a single-track branch line, because the line was only of regional importance. In 1922, the electrical lighting at the station was reversed, which was expanded and switched back to petroleum. The railway line, which was originally also planned for heavy military trains, was never used by the military due to the high gradients. From September 29, 1969, Dingelstädt was the only freight yard between Leinefelde and Geismar due to the end of freight handling in the neighboring town of Küllstedt. On December 31, 1995 the Güterverkehrstelle Dingelstädt was closed. From March 1, 1996, the occupation by a dispatcher in Dingelstädt was abolished. From June 2, 1996, the station remained completely unoccupied and finally, on August 4, 1996, the last railcar ran between Leinefelde and Dingelstädt, after which passenger services were discontinued.
