Space observation and space travel

Throughout history, the universe has been an object of human interest. However, it was only modern astronomy and the possibilities of space exploration underlying newer technology that led to comprehensive and well-founded knowledge about the phenomena surrounding our Earth and their natural laws.

The study of celestial phenomena and stars, which led, among other things, to the development of timekeeping and the calendar, is considered one of humanity's oldest sciences. And it cannot be denied that our earthly life is certainly connected to many aspects of the cosmos and its phenomena, be it the origin of chemical elements, the effect of gravity, the influence of solar activity, or the impact of large objects from space. Nevertheless, we distinguish scientific research from the interpretations of astrology, which rather describes connections between events in space or celestial constellations and our "destiny."

Initially with the naked eye, from the Middle Ages onwards with increasingly better telescopes, and finally with the advancement into space with the help of rockets that carried exploration probes, the Hubble Space Telescope, or measurement and observation satellites, humans have, as always throughout history, indulged their curiosity and thirst for knowledge.

Nowadays, many components of space research or space travel extend into our immediate everyday lives, from weather forecasting and navigation in traffic to new materials in industry and technology, and, last but not least, deeper insights into the origin of the universe and life on Earth.

The most recent milestones were manned flights to the moon and the construction and use of a permanently staffed International Space Station.
And maybe we'll soon be flying to other planets...
